Willaim Morris & Co
|
|
Both Arthur Sanderson and William Morris established their companies in London at approximately the same
time - Sanderson in 1860 and Morris in 1861 - the association between the two firms became even more closely
allied during the 1920's, when Sanderson began printing wallpapers for Morris & Co.
Sanderson purchased Morris & Co. including the showroom contents, the entire collection of wallpaper printing blocks,
stock and complete colour records, including both unique logbooks and hundreds of 'matchpieces' (print
templates) in 1927. At this time Sanderson also acquired a composite collection of Morris printed fabrics. This important
collection is contained within the Sanderson archive and the printing blocks are still used today.

Malabar
|
|
Malabar, based in London UK, was founded over 15 years ago by Peter Sterck who was struck by the
beauty and abundance of furnishing fabrics being made in India. Malabar designs furnishing fabrics which are available
worldwide through selected interior designers and retail outlets. Major retailers in the UK which stock Malabar include
branches of the John Lewis Partnership and Liberty in London's Regent Street. In addition to the comprehensive fabric
ranges there are now co-ordinating rugs and runners, textural wallcoverings and an exciting range of 105 new paint
colours.
The majority of Malabar fabrics are made using time-honoured methods, which cannot be re--created using power
looms. The fabrics are yarn-dyed in hanks to give superb colour yield, and are then hand-woven on floor looms.
Malabar collections include curtain and upholstery weight fabrics in rainbow colours, often inspired and created in far-flung
areas of the Indian subcontinent.
